Fly me to Brazil

Our flights to Brazil are booked.

This is going to be our "reconnoitre trip".  There is a congress there that my husband can attend, then we are going to spend a couple of days in Rio de Janeiro.  While we are there, we are going to look at some venues, and select one for the show in Rio that Eneias and I are planning for next year.

Then I am going south to visit Eneias in his town, Jaragua, and we will perform together in a show there.

It is going to be a long journey.  We fly from Adelaide to Dubai, then to Sao Paolo - two very long legs.  Then there is another flight to the congress city.

I survey my itinerary, and note the time of our arrival in Rio de Janeiro.  It states the name of the airport - "Galeao - A.C. Jobim".  My heart gives a little happy leap.  Jobim - that's the guy who wrote my favourite songs.  They named the airport after him.

Eneias is planning two shows in his town.  I want to make sure I am there for a couple of days beforehand.  I'll be tired from the journey, and we need to rehearse a little before the show.

I'm  excited and just a little bit anxious.  This trip feels adventurous.  I've never been to Brazil.  I've been to South America only once before, to Buenos Aires, for a congress.  I loved that city, but didn't travel anywhere else.

And I  know that when I get there I will be working - concentrating hard - to speak the language, and to understand what is being said by the people around me.  This is not going to be just a holiday.  Eneias came to Adelaide without knowing English.  This time I will be the foreigner, and it will test my language skills.

I need to find someone to help me with the venues in Rio.  We need to identify several suitable theatres, and organize to view them.

I'm playing a big game of "join-the-dots" in a foreign country.  I need to join those dots, and I won't be there very long this time, so there isn't much margin for error.
